Academic Achievement
Mercedes College 2011 graduates have continued the tradition of academic excellence in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Another outstanding performance by the Mercedes College Year 12 cohort from 2011
The 2011 Mercedes College Year 12 cohort have maintained the strong tradition of academic excellence in both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
We congratulate Adam Cooper who was our highest IB Achiever with a total of 43 (out of a maximum of 45) points. This converts to an ATAR of 99.95. Adam received Merits in English SL, Biology HL, Mathematics SL and French SL.
We congratulate Eleanor Wardleworth who achieved an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) of 99.90 in her SACE studies. This included 5 SACE Merits in English Studies, History, Psychology, Research Project and Workplace Practices. She also achieved a Merit in IB French SL completed in Year 11. Eleanor has been recognised with one of the inaugural Governor of South Australia SACE Awards for overall excellence.
We also congratulate Emma Rajic with a total of 42 points . This converts to an ATAR of 99.85 for Emma who received Merits in History HL, Psychology HL and French SL.
For the first time this year, SACE students were able to include one IB subject as part of their ATAR calculation. Mercedes College had 8 SACE students who specifically chose to complete an IB subject in 2011 with all students achieving a 5 or better. One student gained a Merit. A number of students completed IB French SL in Year 11 in 2010 before transferring to SACE in 2011. The generous conversion of IB grades to SATAC Subject Achievement Scores resulted in almost all students improving their ATAR.
Overall Results
- 133 students completed Year 12 studies in 2011 (33 in the IB Diploma)
- 34 Merits were achieved in SACE or in the IB Diploma in 2011
- The highest ATAR attained was 99.90 with another two students at 99.85
- 5 students gained an ATAR above 99
- 28 out of 133 students (21%) of students gained an ATAR above 95
- 42.1% of students gained an ATAR above 90
- 67.7% of students gained an ATAR above 80
2011 SACE Results
- 9 students gained a Merit in at least one subject for a total of 13 Merits
- SACE Merit Certificates were obtained in English Studies, Legal Studies, Modern History, Psychology, Mathematical Studies, Biology, Research Project and Workplace Practices
- 5 SACE students achieved a Merit in an IB subject as part of SACE completion
- IB merits were achieved in French SL and Physics SL
- 32 students (32% of the SACE cohort) gained an ATAR above 90
- 50 % of students gained an ATAR above 80
- 1 student achieved an A grade in 6 subjects
- 4 students gained an A grade in 5 subjects
- 70 students achieved an A grade in a least one subject
2011 IB Diploma Results
- 9 students gained a Merit in at least one subject for a total of 20 Merits
- Merits were achieved in Chinese A1, English A1, French B, Economics, History, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics SL and Mathematical Studies
- 6 Year 11 IB students gained a Merit for French SL
- 1 student achieved a Merit in an IB subject for SACE completion
- 24 out of 33 students (73%) gained an ATAR above 90, with 16 students exceeding an ATAR of 95.
- 30 out of 33 students (91%) gained an ATAR of 80 or higher.
- 1 student achieved 4 Merits and 2 students gained 3 merits.
- The average score was just over 33 points which equates to an ATAR of 94.55.
