IB Middle Years Programme

International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) Year 6 to Year 10

The MYP is based on three fundamental concepts:

  1. Holistic learning
  2. Intercultural awareness
  3. Communication

The curriculum model provides a core of eight disciplines of study, through which five transdisciplinary understandings or Areas of Interaction are developed. The eight subject groups are:

  1. Language A: Language of instruction (English)
  2. Language B: French/Indonesian
  3. Humanities History and Geography
  4. Sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics
  5. Mathematics
  6. Arts: Visual Arts and Performing Arts
  7. Physical Education
  8. Technology

The Areas of Interaction are:

  • Approaches to learning
  • Community and Service
  • Health and Social Education
  • Environments
  • Human Ingenuity

In the final year of their MYP, students undertake a Personal Project, an independent and significant piece of work that is intended to be the culmination of the students' involvement with the five areas of interaction.
