Studying at Mercedes
Mercedes College is a Reception to Year 12 school in the Mercy tradition, providing a caring and supporting learning environment in a co-educational setting. The College has a tradition of academic excellence. The curriculum has an international focus, a strong academic programme and a diverse extra curricular programme.
In order to meet the developmental needs of students, three levels of schooling have been established.
- Junior School (RECEPTION TO YEAR 5)
- Middle School (YEARS 6 TO 9)
- Senior School (YEARS 10 TO 12)
The R-10 programme is based on the International Baccalaureate programmes: R-5 Primary Years Programme and 6-10 Middle Years Programme. For senior secondary graduation, the College offers either the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The Junior School: RECEPTION TO YEAR 5
A strong sense of community is nurtured in the Junior School with emphasis on the pastoral care of each student and the active involvement of parents at all levels. The well being of students is of overall importance in curriculum planning, the development of co-curricular activities and extension and support programmes. Student leadership is actively encouraged and supported at every level and there is a formally established Student Representative Council (SRC).
The Middle School: YEARS 6 TO 9
The needs of Middle School students are addressed through our Home Group structure together with a curriculum that is rigorous and relevant. Our Pastoral Care Programme focuses on well being and students are taught foundation skills for success and achievement. Positive student-teacher relationships are central to our work and structures have been implemented in support of our Middle School philosophy. Students are involved in the peer elected Student Representative Council, Year 7 House Leadership and Year 9 Middle School Leadership.
The Senior School: Years 10 TO 12
The Senior School continues and extends the essential educational values and opportunities established in the Junior and Middle Schools. There is an emphasis on learning excellence, co-curricular choice and participation in community service. An added focus is placed on preparing students for their post school academic, employment and spiritual journeys. Opportunities for students leadership exist through the Student Representative Council, Sports Leader and House Captain roles and leadership of student clubs and societies.
